Care Requirements
Fire Red Cherry Shrimp do best in a mature, stable aquarium with plenty of surfaces to graze and places to hide. Live plants, moss, driftwood, rocks, and other natural surfaces provide excellent habitat.
Species: Neocaridina davidi
Type: Freshwater dwarf shrimp
Adult Size: Approximately 1–1.5 inches
Temperature: Approximately 65–78°F
pH: Approximately 6.5–8.0
Diet: Biofilm, algae, shrimp foods, and blanched vegetables
Difficulty: Beginner-friendly
While Neocaridina are adaptable, stability is more important than chasing a specific number. Avoid sudden changes in temperature, pH, TDS, or other water parameters when introducing shrimp.
Building a Colony
If you’re hoping to establish a breeding colony, we recommend starting with 10 or more shrimp whenever possible. A larger starting group gives you a better chance of establishing a healthy, genetically diverse colony and allows you to enjoy natural breeding behavior sooner.
Provide plenty of cover and grazing surfaces, avoid aggressive tank mates, and maintain consistent water quality. In a suitable established aquarium, Fire Red Cherry Shrimp can reproduce and gradually build a thriving colony.
Important Shipping Note
Shrimp are live animals and may vary slightly in size and coloration. Individual shrimp can appear lighter or darker depending on age, stress level, lighting, background, and water conditions. Color will typically improve as shrimp settle into their new aquarium.
We carefully package live shrimp for safe transit and recommend having your aquarium fully established and ready before placing an order. Please review our shipping and DOA policies.
